April 9, 2018 Toddler Science - Colors and Rainbows



We read these books:

Alphaprints - Colors


















Ava and the Rainbow (Who Stayed)  by Ged Adamson















Mouse Paint  by Ellen Stoll Walsh
















After reading the stories we talked about the primary and secondary colors and how they are made.
We squished zip lock bags filled with paint to make new colors like:
red & yellow = orange
yellow & blue = green
red & blue = purple

Saturday Morning Story Time - We are the Dinosaurs





















Here is a list of the books we read:
We Are The Dinosaurs  by Laurie Berkner
Meet the Dinosaurs
Stomp  by Ruth Paul

We listened to the song "We are the Dinosaurs" by Laurie Berkner while we painted the feet of dinosaurs and stomped them across paper

We also colored a dinosaur then attached feet with a braid so they could move

March 12, 2018 Toddler Science-Construction and Tools


Today we talked about tools and construction vehicles.

We looked at and talked about different tools: hammer, screwdriver, wrench, tape measure, etc. and what they are used for

We sang a song:
Five little nails
standing straight and steady
here comes the carpenter
with his hammer, ready
bam, bam, bam

Repeat with four, three, two, one, until no nails are left

Animal Camouflage in the Snow

We talked about how some animals use a layer of fat (blubber) to keep themselves warm in the cold weather then did a test with ice water and tried different materials in plastic bags to see which one gave the most protection from the cold. We tried bags with shredded paper, yarn, feathers and a bag with Crisco.
I laid copies of animal footprints around the room so the children could measure their foot against each animal footprint to see if their foot was bigger or smaller than that animals
We looked at different footprints and tried to guess what animals the footprints belonged to
We looked at skulls and tried to guess what animals the skulls belonged to
